Fear God…It’s The Only Fear We Should Have

“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.” – Jack Canfield

Proverbs 9:10-12 NLT 10 Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment. 11 Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life. 12 If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit. If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer.

At first reading of the above quote, I immediately thought of the most common “Christian” thinking; that of course, we shouldn’t fear anything.  That allowing fear to seep into our lives and set up residency, we become hindered in our ability to serve God and others.  Fear enables us to remain quiet and not share the Good News of Jesus Christ and His love for all.

But after further meditation, the quote is true in another respect…the holy Fear of the Lord.

Now, we know that this is not referencing being afraid of God, but truly recognizing who God is.  He is the Creator of All.  He is Sovereign. He has all Authority and IS THE Authority.

In obedience and reverence to God, we indeed have access to everything we really need. For it is written:  And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19 NLT

In both cases, being “fearful” to the things in this world and not having reverent fear and respect of the Lord, will keep us from living a life that is satisfying, complete and one that honors God.

Proverbs 15:14 NLT 16 Better to have little, with fear for the LORD, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil.

When we neglect or forget or simply no longer choose to care who God is and His position in regards to us and everything, we have now taken a path to ultimate destruction and eventual despair…I’m mostly speaking Spiritually here.  Sometimes we forget that part of us that is really important, because we are so focused on what’s happening to us naturally.  We see bold, fearless people achieving wealth, power and a world of excitement and fun.  However, we seldom get to see what is happening on the inside, until we read a report of an unsuspected and/or untimely death or tragedy in their lives. Then we say to ourselves, “how could this be when they had everything?”  But isn’t that the lie, the trick?  We are led or made to believe that what we see on the outside, is everything.  Not really realizing that what is most important, is what’s going on inside of us.

Revelation 6-7 NLT 6 And I saw another angel flying through the sky, carrying the eternal Good News to proclaim to the people who belong to this world—to every nation, tribe, language, and people. 7 “Fear God,” he shouted. “Give glory to him. For the time has come when he will sit as judge. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all the springs of water.”

In the final analysis, its going to come down to acknowledging who God is.  And for those of us, who kept our “Fear” of God as our basis, our foundation; we will receive everything we need.

May your prayer today be that you continue to seek God.  That you never allow the cares of this world to cover up or cause you to forget, that God is indeed, sitting on the Throne.  Jesus is at His right hand.  And the appointed time of His return is coming.  And at that time, we will know once and for all, that Jesus is everything that we ever needed.

God bless you today.
